Never able to consistently train in the standard gym style with loads of curls and bench presses, Derick found his love of fitness after some knee issues caused him to shift from running to indoor rowing at a facility which also included CrossFit. Along with rowing, excitement about the explosive movements of CrossFit led him to pursue a CrossFit coaching certification. After spending time coaching intro classes for new gym members, he began to notice a need for more directly involved individual corrections. This led to a NASM personal trainer certification and several years of teaching movements with a focus on good body mechanics and injury prevention.

Loving the interaction with his clients, he has built his attitude and motivation towards fitness around his motto of “whatever gets you off the couch”, whether it be power walking the mall, long runs on the beach, or power cleans and kettlebell swings.
